Golden Maverick wins again!

Golden Maverick, running in the silks of leading racehorse syndicate RaceShare, put up a tremendous fast-finishing run to claim victory in the 3.30pm Handicap Hurdle at Carlisle on Monday at odds of 9/2.

Hitting the line to get up by a neck, in the words of his leading trainer Jamie Snowden, it was ‘incredible, impossible but impressive!’ as Golden Maverick was still around 8 lengths behind at the second last flight. A determined and driven ride by jockey Gavin Sheehan saw brave Mav find another gear in the final furlong and snatch victory from the clear leader Haarar on the line.

Mav was greeted back into the winner's enclosure by a crowd of RaceShare owners, who were celebrating his third hurdle win. Gavin Sheehan said after the ride:

“Going down to the last I said ‘oh I’ll win this’. He’s won comfortably and I went past the winning line and he pricked his ears.”

As you’ll see in the race replay here, it’s almost impossible to believe Mav could get up to win, having raced off the bridle for much of the race. But a typically patient, strong ride from jockey Gavin Sheehan paid off. Jamie Snowden will now look for race options for Mav over the next few weeks as he’s come out of the win fit and well.
