Golden Maverick looks a brilliant prospect for hurdles with a Timeform rating of 91 and already proven over a mile and a half on the Flat. He is a five-time winner from 15 starts, four on turf and one on the all-weather and has proven a liking for soft ground, which is an important attribute to send a horse jumping. Golden Maverick was actually bought back at Tattersalls sales for 105,000 guineas by his owner, with us being the underbidder at 100,000 guineas. However, we were so keen to secure him that we immediately approached the trainer to give them a second chance to accept our bid of 100,000 guineas and we were delighted when they accepted. His sire Zarak has made an exceptional start over Jumps already with the very high class Zarak The Brave and Bo Zenith. Simon Rowlands, our co-owner and form expert, has prepared some stats concerning horses going jumping from the Flat and his figures show that on average a horse stays 1.4 times as far over hurdles as it does on the Flat, so with Golden Maverick already strongly proven over 1m 4f, it is extremely likely that 2m over hurdles will prove no problem for him. The share price is all inclusive with no monthly costs and an optional renewal payment.

The plan
Golden Maverick will start with a four week break at jumping legend AP McCoy’s Lodge Down Stables, before returning to training at Jamie Snowden’s yard. If all goes well, he will be ready to run in early January, which leaves plenty of time to dream about the major Jumps festivals, if he can start his jumping career with a bang.
- Highly rated prospect from the Flat, Timeform rated 91
- Enters his jumping career with proven soundness, having won five times and finished second three times in 2023
- Came highly recommended by renowned bloodstock agent, Tom Malone, who described him as a ‘lovely, hardy type, very sound with all the strength to make a proper jumper’
