La Pulga wins on his on his seasonal reappearance!

La Pulga returned to the track last Friday at Newcastle and was back with a bang, winning gamely to fend off his three rivals that day. 

He had run two good races at the track back in the autumn, finishing second and then sixth (beaten just over two lengths), so we went into the race with hopes that he could make a promising start to the year. With the favourite well-supported in the market, it looked like we might have to settle for a solid effort in defeat, but not one bit; he was headed inside the final furlong or so, but he battled back gamely and stayed on all the way to the line to record an ultimately impressive victory. 

This gives us great encouragement for the rest of the season ahead with our boy, as he should continue to give a good account of himself in handicaps. His aptitude for the all-weather surface at Newcastle opens up more options and we have all those opportunities on the turf for him too.
