Flat Stayer 4yo Bay Gelding 15.2hh
  • Sire: Kodiac Dam: Nijah

La Pulga (watch his introduction video) is a four-year-old gelding who was previously trained by Harry and Roger Charlton. A three-time winner and Timeform rated 91, he scored on his latest start at Salisbury under Ryan Moore, where he quickened well off a steady pace to beat Wilderness and Daiquiri, both of whom had first run on him. La Pulga’s damsire is Pivotal, who was Champion Broodmare Sire from 2017 to 2019 with his daughters producing 28 individual Group 1 winners to date. La Pulga was the subject of very favourable reports from our inspection team as the type to improve from age three to four. He is suited by 1m 4f to 1m 6f and is in training with Charlie Johnston. Charlie and his father Mark have a magnificent record with distance horses. La Pulga is Spanish for ‘the flea’ and is the nickname of legendary footballer, Lionel Messi.

The plan

La Pulga has been settling into his new stables at Charlie's and is being brought back into work in early 2023 and will be aimed at some of the big staying Saturday Handicaps. An early target could be to try La Pulga on the all-weather before the start of the Flat turf season. La Pulga doesn't have to improve much on his current Official Rating of 83 to get a run in one of the Royal Ascot handicaps.
