Scampi victorious at the Shergar Cup!

Well, everyone at RaceShare is over the moon with the performance of Scampi to win at the Shergar Cup on Saturday. We have really felt the excitement and love from his adoring owners on what was a really special day. 

Our five-year-old son of Nayef was sent off at 11/2 in the market and was ridden by the in-form Saffie Osborne, who joined Hayley Turner and Hollie Doyle on Team Ladies to take on the other teams at the unique Ascot fixture. The pair broke alertly and settled towards the back of the field, with a strong pace set by Youthful King. Scampi travelled eye-catchingly into the race as they turned for home and Saffie sent him in search of the new leader, Wootton'Sun, who narrowly beat Scampi when last seen at Haydock in July. Scampi picked up really well to reach the leader's quarters and briefly led inside the final furlong, but the leader didn't go down without a fight and battled all the way to the line. The pair were stride for stride and it was a case of heads up, heads down as they crossed the line. The roar as the pair battled all the way to the finish and the humming as everyone waited for the result of the photo finish was an incredible experience. The feeling of trepidation for us all soon turned into elation as the announcement was made: FIRST, NUMBER EIGHT, SCAMPI!

This was Scampi's second win this year amongst a host of solid efforts in defeat. He improved again to win that race on Saturday off a mark of 92 and the Ebor on August 26 now becomes an even more realistic target, the race he qualified for automatically when winning at York back in May. If he can get competitive in a race of that quality, we will be eyeing more serious targets that could even include a trip Down Under later this year. It's been a fairytale journey for his owners and everyone at RaceShare and long may that journey continue.
