New RaceShare100 Recruits!
Our buying team were busy at the sales in October and we are delighted to announce the launch of one yearling and one horse-in-training so far for RaceShare100, where there are 100 shares in each horse. Stay tuned for our next RaceShare horse (where a larger ownership group keeps the share price under £50) early next week!
The yearling was bought at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2. He was lot 1104, a yearling colt by Bated Breath, out of Rely On Me, purchased for 85,000 guineas (£89,250). He will be trained by Andrew Balding at Kingsclere.
He is out of a dam called Rely On Me, who has already hit the target twice in a big way with her two foals to race to date. Her first runner, Nordic Dragon, has won five times in Hong Kong, which is an extremely competitive environment, where almost all the horses are bought from overseas for big money. Nordic Dragon reached the highest class of handicaps (Class 1) and is a very serious performer. Rely On Me’s second offspring was Prestige Always (named Mythology when racing in Europe), who finished second in a Group 3 at Deauville before being transferred to Hong Kong, where he was a winner on his debut in late September.
The sire, Bated Breath, has produced dozens of Group and Listed winners. He is a middle-ranking sire in the market, but our team rated him a perfect match for this mare. Our yearling was a seriously impressive physical individual at the sales and, with the dam having excelled with both her runners to date, we feel there is every chance that this fellow will be a very serious performer.
He has the advantage of being a January foal (most UK horses are born between January and April, with a few in May & June) and, with Prestige Always having been Group-placed as a two-year-old, he can very much be expected to be performing in 2025!
Our horse-in-training purchase is an absolutely gorgeous grey 3-year-old, Spaceport, to be trained by Tom Lacey for RaceShare100. We think he’s a top class jumping prospect - and he’s a highly talented performer off the Flat - with a Timeform rating of 94 (4lb higher than our very exciting Class 2 hurdle winner, Golden Maverick, had at the same stage last year).
He was bought for 100,000 guineas (£105,000) at this week’s Tattersalls Horses-in-Training Sale (lot 261) by our buying team in conjunction with renowned National Hunt expert, Anthony Bromley, who has purchased so many top-class horses under his Highflyer Bloodstock banner, including Kauto Star, Sprinter Sacre and Big Bucks!
As you’ll recall, our buying team has a very serious record with their purchase from these sales, including the great Scampi, Golden Maverick & La Pulga.
Anthony Bromley was extremely impressed by Spaceport at the sales and was very keen that we secure him. He commented that he is “a really bonny quality individual with an athletic gait and a good outlook on life…he has a hurdler’s physique and really appealed to me as a serious juvenile hurdle prospect. He has plenty of Flat class and the stamina to take him to the good Saturday races in that division”.
We are really excited about the coming weeks and months following these new purchases!
