La Pulga runs them ragged at Thirsk!
La Pulga was cheered home by a large group of his owners at Thirsk on Saturday
afternoon when a dominant winner of the Calverts Carpets Hambleton Cup.
This was his second win of the season, but that’s only half the story, as he’d spent
the summer running in the valuable and ultra-competitive Racing League series,
where he put up some valiant efforts to be placed on three out of four occasions.
Jason Hart gave him an excellent ride at Thirsk when, despite securing the lead from the start, he kept La P off the rail as he’d judged that the ground was rougher on the inside. When pressed by his rivals in the straight, he went for the guns at the two furlong pole and drew right away to win by 4 lengths!
Trainer Charlie Johnston has two possible targets for him on Saturday, September
21: a valuable handicap at Ayr’s prestigious Western meeting, or the Autumn Cup at Newbury. Who’s to say that La Pulga can’t add to his already spectacular season in 2024?
