Gibbs Island and Marlacoo start their seasons at Chepstow tomorrow
Just like that, the summer is over and the Flat season soon draws to a close, signalling the start of the Jumps. RaceShare has an exciting bunch of jumpers for the season and plenty of unknown quantities, so it looks set to be a fascinating one for us all.
Gibbs Island and Marlacoo are first to be unleashed by Tom Lacey, as they both head for Chepstow’s curtain-raiser tomorrow. The former runs in the 4.00pm, a limited handicap for four-year-olds, where he is the best horse in the race on official ratings and therefore carries top weight. He was an impressive winner of the Class 2 Victor Ludorum Hurdle at Haydock earlier this year, before taking us to Grade 1s at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals. He had been on the go for a long time, so we have reason to believe that a good summer break under his belt will have done him the world of good. We cannot wait to get him started and see how his season will unfold after such an exciting start for us.
As for Marlacoo, he runs in the finale on the card tomorrow, a Class 4 handicap hurdle, and steps up in trip to three miles for the first time. He won comfortably at Ayr last season and was generally very consistent, so we are very much looking forward to this new season with him and hope he can climb to new heights. He has also had a wind operation during his summer break.
