Lazy Griff has flown the flag for the yard this season so far, placing second and third in the Derby at Epsom and the Irish Derby respectively.

3. Richard Hannon – 65 Wins

Close behind in third, Richard Hannon has chalked up 65 wins from 407 runners (16% strike rate). His yard has brought in over £1.4 million, and stable jockey Sean Levey has been instrumental, securing 25 wins in 133 rides. Hannon’s stable continues to be a force in both juvenile and older horse divisions. Rosallion is the stable star, who was narrowly denied in a thrilling Group 1 curtain raiser at Royal Ascot.

4. Tony Carroll – 65 Wins

Also on 65 wins, Tony Carroll has done it from 564 runs, reflecting a busy schedule and admirable consistency. With a strike rate of 12%, Carroll has been a familiar name on winner boards across the country. Jack Doughty, with 27 wins from 201 rides, has led the charge for the trainer in the saddle. Time Patrol has been a revelation for the yard, winning five times from 10 starts this year.

6. William Haggas – 61 Wins

Always a major player, William Haggas has 61 wins from 300 runners, tying Balding’s strike rate at 20%. His horses have banked over £1.3 million, and Tom Marquand has guided home 24 of those winners from 119 rides. Copper Knight is one of the stable’s most popular horses, twice a winner this year already and now a 17-time winner (with a further 11 seconds and seven thirds) from 107 starts.

9. Charlie Appleby – 52 Wins

Charlie Appleby remains one of the most effective trainers with a 33% strike rate, the highest among the top 10. His 52 wins from just 160 runners highlight surgical precision in placing his horses. With total earnings exceeding £2.3 million, Appleby remains a dominant force, especially with top jockey William Buick (32 wins from 96 rides). Ruling Court’s Guineas victory was the highlight for the yard this year, closely followed by Rebel’s Romance adding to his incredible Group 1 tally here and abroad.

Irish Guineas winner Field Of Gold, Prince of Wales’s winner Ombudsman and Ascot Gold Cup winner Trawlerman receive special mentions for the yard in 2025.

The 2025 Flat season so far shows a vibrant mix of volume trainers, alongside the clinical precision of others. While win counts dominate this list, strike rates, prize money, and jockey partnerships all reveal the deeper strategies behind these successes. With several months of racing left, it’ll be fascinating to see how these rankings evolve.
