Why we bought from the Horses-in-Training Sale

The Tattersalls Autumn Horses-in-Training Sale has long been one of the most anticipated sales in the calendar year, because of its huge variety of buyers worldwide and selection of racehorses on offer. The sale has had 76 Group/Listed winners since 2020 alone, including seven at the highest level, which speaks for itself in terms of the quality of the catalogue. Every year, the sale has dispersals from some of the biggest operations in racing and, in 2022, the sale had the added spice of containing The King’s first sale of horses - those owned previously by the late Her Majesty The Queen.

RaceShare’s buying policy is to source well-bred and sound horses with great temperaments, and to carefully identify the horses that offer the best chance of delivering success for owners. Because this sale offers proven horses with form on the racetrack, it was high on the list for us.

With approximately 1,500 lots on offer at this year’s sale, the catalogue took some whittling down and our buying team were busy leading up to the opening day on 24 October. The process involved firstly shortlisting those that ticked all of our boxes on paper, including pedigree and recent form. Secondly, the shortlisted horses were all seen in person at the sale grounds in Newmarket, in order to check their conformation (the horse’s shape and structure) and soundness, and then those that really stood out to us were vetted before they entered the sale ring. We were delighted to come away with three purchases and we hope these horses will contribute to a successful start for RaceShare and give our owners a great experience of racehorse ownership.
