Sea Tempest
- Sire: Affinisea Dam: Cyclone Lorraine
Sea Tempest is a once-raced four-year-old in training with Tom Lacey. He was bought at last year's Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale where, as ever, our buying team was headed by renowned bloodstock investor, Patrick Veitch. Since going into training, Sea Tempest has consistently impressed his trainer, and backed that up with a hugely promising 3rd in a hot Southwell bumper on his debut.
Tom commented immediately after the race that he has 'never been so pleased with a horse finishing third in my life!' and he probably would have won in another half a furlong. Jockey Stan Sheppard spoke to Harry Skelton after the race- who rode the 4th- and he felt it was an extremely strong race, while Timeform highlighted the way Sea Tempest stayed on as “promising” - all very encouraging signs.
Sea Tempest is by Affinisea, who is now the busiest Jumps sire in Britain and Ireland and will only go from strength to strength. From his smaller earlier crops, numbering 72 seven-year-olds and 67 six-year-olds, he produced Grade 1 winners Affordale Fury and Sixmilebridge.
From only three runners to date, the dam, Cyclone Lorraine, has already produced the very talented mare, Ruaille Buaille, a four-time winner for Willie Mullins with a peak official rating of 135 (which would likely be over 140 in the UK), as well as Romeo Magic, a multiple winner for Emmet Mullins.
The Affinisea cross with the damsire Stowaway (the sire of Cyclone Lorraine) has excelled, with three horses representing this cross in the sire's top ten rated horses. In addition, as Tom mentions in the footage below, Stowaway was the damsire of three winners at last year’s Cheltenham Festival.
It’s an impressive pedigree all the way through, with Cyclone Lorraine being a full sister to both Hidden Cyclone- a multiple Graded winner for Shark Hanlon- and Cyclone’s Sister, the dam of Graded-placed and Listed chase winner, Monbeg Park.
All in all, Sea Tempest is an exceptionally exciting Jump prospect, who we think has a really big future ahead of him.
Please see below in the Gallery section for a more detailed look at the pedigree, the strength of which really must be seen to be believed.
This is a 500 share syndicate, with an initial share price of £385, including the updated valuation of the horse at £350 per share, plus all costs to April 30th, 2026 when your direct debit will start. From that date, there will be 13 monthly payments of £12 payable by direct debit (reduced to £11 for 5 shares or more) until April 30th, 2027. This covers all training, veterinary, transport & racing (entries, jockey & VAT services) costs, plus RaceShare’s service fee for the management of the syndicate. The RaceShare team will be in touch to set up your direct debit once you have made the initial payment for your share(s). Alternatively, if you prefer not to pay by direct debit, you have the option to pay the monthly fees up front - please contact the office for details.
500 share syndicate benefits
-
Owners will be guaranteed at least one stable visit a year. Wherever possible we will give at least 2 months’ notice of each visit, allowing time for owners to plan their trip.
-
A guaranteed place on Zoom calls with Tom Lacey, at least every two months when in full training, with a recording sent to anyone unable to join us live.
-
Your chance of receiving a badge when your horse runs will be hugely higher, with the number of shares per horse compared to our original syndicates reduced by 83-88%. Due to location and other commitments, our experience is that only a minority of owners apply on any one day, so your badge prospects will improve dramatically. RaceShare will continue its unrivalled efforts to secure extra badges, either free or at discounted rates, so you will hopefully find you are often able to benefit from these even when discount numbers are limited.
-
Patrick Veitch has agreed to a Zoom Q+A which we shall host with all owners of new horses. There will be two opportunities each year, with everyone invited to attend at least one, but in this first year you will be able to attend both. Patrick will take questions on all aspects of the racing industry, including bloodstock and buying for RaceShare, as well as betting and any other issues of interest.
-
Anyone buying in at the same level as a RaceShare100 horse (i.e. buying 5 or more shares for at least a 1% stake) will have direct WhatsApp contact with their own Racing Manager and receive a small discount to their monthly fee.
-
If you purchase a 25% stake in the horse, you have the option to be named on the racecard as a co-owner.

Recent updates
Our four-year-old Sea Tempest couldn’t have impressed more on his first outing at Southwell on Wednesday, finishing a fast-closing third in what had been touted as an extremely strong bumper. Settled by Stan Sheppard towards the rear of the field, he made steady, stealthy progress along the back straight. In the home straight, he was briefly tight for room, leaving him with a fair bit of ground to make up, but he finished strongly and would surely have won with another 50 yards.
Tom remarked that this is the happiest he’s ever been to finish third, and we are all now eagerly anticipating what Sea Tempest’s future might hold. With hurdles and fences ahead, there is every reason to believe he has a very bright future.
For now, he’ll be pointed towards another National Hunt Flat race, where he must have very strong chances with this hugely beneficial experience under his belt.

The plan
At this very early stage, Tom Lacey is hopeful that our new purchase can be aimed at four-year-old bumpers as early as Spring 2026.
