Breathe Easy
- Sire: Bated Breath (GB) Dam: Rely On Me (IRE)
There are a very limited number of shares available in Breathe Easy, a three-year-old gelding by Bated Breath. He won a Kempton maiden decisively on January 21 and has a really exciting season ahead of him, with trainer Andrew Balding highlighting the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot as a long term target.
Please click below to watch the replay of his win, where you will see he was well on top in the final couple of furlongs, before hitting the line strongly.
This was only his third start and he has progressed considerably with each race, since he was bought for 85,000 guineas (£89,250) by renowned racing investor Patrick Veitch at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 in 2024.
This is a 100 share syndicate and the shares are available for £1,692, in line with the new valuation of £150,000 after his maiden success, plus all costs to April 30th, 2026. From that date, there will be a monthly payment of £64 payable by direct debit (reductions available for multiple shares - see below for a full breakdown) until October 31st, 2026.
The pedigree
His dam, Rely On Me, has already hit the target twice in a big way with her two foals to race to date. Her first runner, Nordic Dragon, has won five times in Hong Kong, which is an extremely competitive environment, where almost all the horses are bought from overseas for big money. Nordic Dragon reached the highest class of handicaps (Class 1) and is a very serious performer. Rely On Me’s second offspring was Prestige Always (named Mythology when racing in Europe), who finished second in a Group 3 at Deauville before being transferred to Hong Kong, where he was a winner on his debut in late September.
What many at the sales may have missed is that handicap ratings are typically a lot lower in Hong Kong than they are in the UK, so these horses equate to significantly higher ratings by UK standards. For example, those of you with access to the form on the Racing Post or elsewhere will see that Prestige Always still shows as having a BHA rating of 100 when last racing in Europe but was given an initial rating of 70 when racing in the hyper-competitive Hong Kong environment.

Recent updates
Breathe Easy hit the headlines last night at Kempton, as he was the comfortable winning favourite of the maiden race on the card at 5pm!
Watching on were around 28 owners and their guests - a great turnout for the 100 share syndicate - and each of them enjoyed a private box in the Lanzarote Suite for the evening.
Sent off the 2/1 favourite, Oisin Murphy adapted to the slow early pace by letting Breathe Easy roll on in front and set the fractions. As they entered the home straight, he began to turn the pace up a notch and, ultimately, rode the perfect race with none of the horses behind able to quicken up past him.
His sole challenge came from the Juddmonte-owned Leonetto, who had run very well at Southwell last time out. He made a strong challenge on the inside at the cutaway and briefly looked set to make a bold bid, but Breathe Easy was equal to the move and was well on top at the finish.
This marked the start of a really exciting season for him and the long term target in Andrew Balding’s mind is the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot!
Wednesday sees Breathe Easy return to the scene of his debut at Kempton Park. He has made huge strides since that first run and comes into the race with a lively chance against some useful rivals.
Owners won’t have to wait long to see him in action, as he takes his chance in the second race on the card at 5:00 pm - a seven-furlong maiden.
Our partnership with Kempton continues to flourish, with 17 owners and their guests enjoying a RaceShare box for the evening. The package includes a two-course meal, a welcome comfort given the less-than-favourable weather forecast.
After his cracking performance at Southwell last time out, Breathe Easy’s owners can look forward to an enjoyable evening at Kempton, watching him take his chance once again.
